The U.S. should invade Taiwan
Militarism is inefficient to the U.S. economy, diverting tax dollars from much needed domestic issues. The increased build up in the South China Sea, Philippines, Japan, and South Korea is merely to protect two important symbols of the United States: semiconductors and democracy.
Claiming Taiwan as a incorporated territory
Taiwan may not want to be a part of the United States, but it would directly put it in U.S. military protection. Whether it should come via invasion or treaty, Taiwan would continue to elect its own people unhindered by China and be able to receive federal funding in science and research to further progress the tech industry in Taiwan with its highly-educated population.
The U.S. should not invade Taiwan
Taiwan is a prize to China. The island that the Kuomintang fled to and established their democracy. China is looking to stomp any last sign of dissent. China may look to invade it before the U.S. properly sets up defenses. As of 2025, the U.S. is only slowly building up surrounding defenses.
